LED grand piano at the Lights Festival in California

An autumn night, a city park, bright LED flowers, neon benches, music and glowing mirrors – that’s not a magic dream but part of abstract art installations at the traditional Lights Festival held in Oakland, California. The event started 6 years ago as a lantern fest but now it gives us the latest and most innovative lighting technology.

The show’s venue was the Gardens at Lake Merritt, which were turned into a magical oasis. This year’s event gathered over 40 artists and their light sculptures and the organisers use the funds to maintain the lake park.

This year’s attraction was the world’s first LED grand piano, Luminescent Grand, created in 2013 by the software engineer William Jerome and the pianist Bill Cornelius. A total of 1760 LEDs are placed within the musical instrument, lighting up in different colours at the press of different keys. The innovative grand piano is life-sized and the transparent material it is made of allows the audience to enjoy the bright colours of the LEDs accompanied by the sounds of various musical pieces performed by Cornelius.

The impressive grand piano is only a small part of the LED revolution in the arts over the last years and proves how multifunctional this type of lighting is. If you too want to delight in the advantages of LED lighting in your home or office, you can choose from the wide variety of V-TAC products.
